I’ve been a huge fan of Sakara for awhile now, stemming back to 2014 when I was working in PR and partnered with them to have their infamous Beauty Water backstage for the models and glam teams at a NYFW show. Truly feels like a lifetime ago. Since then, it has been so amazing to see the brand grow and evolve and the huge span of products and meal programs they now offer including a recent launch into Sephora

I have done their Signature Program a few times for various reasons whether it be that I wanted to reset/detox after the holidays or I simply wanted a break from cooking for myself. The food arrives ready-to-eat and is made from the best ingredients that are plant-based, GF, DF, etc. The meals taste amazing and are nutritionally designed to brighten skin, decrease bloat, and stabilize blood sugar. I’m also obsessed with their yummy teas and functional bars that they sell through their Clean Boutique

While I love the Signature Program I was really excited about their new Detox / Level 2 Program. This program is more of a cleanse and aims to completely reset your body and potentially reveal food sensitivities you might not know you have. In addition to what is eliminated from the Signature Program (meat, gluten, dairy, refined sugar) the Level 2 program eliminates all sugar (even from fruit), nuts, soy, nightshades, caffeine, and of course alcohol.

THE REVIEW

First I want to say that I eat mostly plant based (vegan + fish), am not a heavy drinker, and am often cutting out the same things eliminated in this detox. That being said, I think this was fairly easy for me, but can imagine this would be much harder for someone who eats a lot of meat and/or dairy and has not tried any other elimination style diet. If you fall into the second category I definitely recommend starting with their Signature program for 3 or 5 days or their 10 day reset before doing the Level 2 Detox.

The eating and supplement schedule for day 1, 2, 3, 5:

(*Day 4 is explained below)

Morning

Beauty water + dry brush

Breakfast and morning supplements

Mid morning 2 cups of digest tea

Midday

Lunch

2 more cups of digest tea

Late afternoon Coconut Kefir Drink

Evening

Dinner (mineral broth) + evening supplements

Detox / Chlorophyll Water

DAY 1

Mood

Woke up excited to get this thing going! I just started working out at Basecamp so after my class I came home to have my beauty water and dry brush before showering. This was my morning routine everyday except on day 4 I did not work out.

Food

Since I don’t typically eat breakfast it felt weird to be eating so much in the morning, but I’m glad I did because the food got much lighter as the day went on. The lunch today which was a cabbage dumpling soup and was my least favorite meal the whole week. I started to really feel the lack of caffeine / detox slump around 3pm, but luckily the daily afternoon coconut probiotic drink was the perfect boost. I felt pretty bloated after lunch through when I went to bed which Sakara says is completely normal. Dinner days 1-4 is the same medical both (pictured) that is packed with a ton of nutrient dense ingredients and is much more satisfying than a simple vegetable broth.

Overall feeling

I was VERY tired, had a headache towards the end of the day, and couldn’t get to bed fast enough.

DAY 2

Mood

Slept really well, but was still pretty tired when I woke up today and almost didn’t make it to my workout.

Food

Today was really delicious, breakfast was a cinnamon carrot chia parfait that is right up the ally of something I would typically eat. Lunch was Jicama noodles with lemon herb pesto and the pesto was seriously the best pesto I’ve ever had. Again, loveeeed the afternoon coconut Kefir.(pictured)

Overall feeling

So drained and had a headache for most of the day. Couldn’t wait to go to bed.

DAY 3

Mood

Headache is finally cleared and I was starting to feel more energized. I feel like today is going to be a shift away from the less of the not fun detox symptoms (headache, feeling drained, bloating).

Food

Food today was really comforting and filling. So much so, that I forgot to have the afternoon Kefir! I really loved the Rainbow Kitchari (pictured) and am excited to recreate post cleanse. It was probably my favorite meal thus far. “Cheated” today by having a ginger lemon seltzer. I know a really lame “cheat”, but felt like I had to disclose!

Overall feeling

Really good! Today my body felt the best it has been since starting. Again was excited for a goodnight sleep, but definitely not as drowsy and exhausted as I was the two days prior.

DAY 4

Schedule of food and supplements for this day:

Morning

Beauty water + dry brush

Green detox juice

Midday

Ginger carrot soup

Green detox juice

Coconut Kefir drink

Evening

Mineral broth + evening supplements

Detox / Chlorophyll Water

Mood

I was buzzing from the moment I woke up (this was a Sunday too so no need to be buzzing). Felt really energized, my skin was glowing and just felt really good. Today is the all liquid day so hoping this energy buzz lasts me all day. Was also down 4lbs this morning!

Food

Today’s food is much different than the previous days as it’s all liquids. I love a veggie packed green juice so I enjoyed it, but I can imagine some people might not love this day. Lunch is a ginger carrot soup (pictured) that was so delicious and another meal I plan to recreate post detox. I was completely satiated all day and never felt hungry. As you can see in the schedule, I am eating(drinking) quite often throughout this day so as soon as I started to get hungry it was already time for the next juice or soup.

Overall feeling

Feeling really good, lighter, and like my mind has been cleared. One day to go!

Day 5

image 7.jpg

Mood

Last day! Didn’t sleep as well as I did every other night on the detox, but still much better than normal. Excited for the last day and to chew today : )

Food

Breakfast was a sunshine squash “frittata” that really did taste like sunshine after the liquid day. Lunch was bomb.com and was a cauliflower + white bean burger over tons of greens. So filling and flavorful and truly felt indulgent after yesterday. Dinner was a macro bowl (pictured) that was also really delicious. I know I said MOST the meals were delicious, but they really were all so good!

Overall feeling

Really good! I felt so energized, fresh, and completely reset after the last 5 days.

FINAL REVIEW

The discomfort I experienced (bloating, headache, exhaustion) only lasted for the first two days and by day 3 I really started to feel a difference. I lost about 4.5lbs total, my stomach and digestion feel so much better, my skin is extra glowy, and I have been sleeping really well.

Literally the only thing I would change is the lunch from day one : ) They also provide you with 5 more packs of the evening supplements to continue taking following the detox and I have already ordered their probiotic to take when those run out.

My main goals and takeaways post detox:

  • Try to bring back breakfast into my routine

  • To eat more nutrient dense meals to avoid snacking later in the day

  • Continue dry brushing to keep my skin soft through the winter

  • Listen to my body when it is asking for more or less during meal times
